Gregory Poole Equipment Company donated two 5,000 lb capacity pneumatic tired forklifts with 48" long forks to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. The food bank serves approximately 200,000 people in 7 counties in around Raleigh/Fayetville. Since the flood, they have distributed 1.2 million pounds of food, a 41% increase in demand. The forklifts have allowed the food bank to bring on additional volunteers and staff to meet the increased demand and because of the pneumatic tires, the food bank was able to set up a drive-through food distribution in their parking lot.

The cybercrimes that grab media headlines typically involve big retailers such as Target or Home Depot. But material handling businesses shouldn't get complacent thinking that they aren't at risk. Whether you run a small, single-site operation or own multiple locations, your company is facing most of the same cyber threats as the biggest businesses. If you're not taking cyber security precautions today, you could be exposing your business, your customers, your suppliers and your employees to data theft.

Arden, North Carolina-based Arcadia Dairy Farms began as a small dairy business in 1939 with 30 cows and 70 acres. Through the years, Arcadia has grown substantially and even branched beyond the dairy business into the juice and non-carbonated beverage industry. As the business has grown, its packaging and shipping requirements have grown along with it. In 2004, Arcadia began working with Scott Hovis and his team at Advanced Equipment Company to help automate processes in the now 200,000 sq. ft. facility. The aim of this initial project was to transition away from the use of forklifts to transport cartons more efficiently.

Hi everyone! I’m coming to you from a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet – somewhere over Missouri if my bearings are anywhere accurate (or Missouruh if you’re from there) – on my way back from a speaking engagement in Michigan. I’m quickly learning that one of most glamourous part of this speaking gig is to get the opportunity to spend countless hours in airports! If you can’t read the sarcasm in the latter part of that sentence, we spent 2 hours tonight either waiting to pull back from the gate or waiting for our turn on the tarmac. I think the plane had a flat tire or a broken wing or something.
